Monster Sightings

"The creature was huge. It's eyes were deep set and hard to see, but they seemed expressionless. His face seemed pretty much devoid of hair, but there seemed to be hair along the sides of his face. His chest, shoulders, and arms were massive, especially the upper arms; easily upwards of 6 inches in diameter, perhaps much, much more. I could see he was pretty hairy, but didn't observe really how thick the body hair was. The face/head was very square; square sides and squared up chin, like a box."

So wrote Don Davis, who said he saw the monster during a Boy Scout camping trip near Payson in 1944 or 1945. Davis was a cryptozoology investigator who died in 2002. You can read more about Davis in this Arizona Republic article.

Perhaps the Mogollon Monster is a cousin to the more famous Bigfoot or Sasquatch. We may never know. Here's a vivid description of a bigfoot sighting:

In the early afternoon of October 20, 1967 Patterson and Gimlin spotted a female Bigfoot down on the creek gravel sandbar. Patterson's horse reared in alarm at the sight of the creature, bringing both horse and rider to the ground, Patterson pinned below. Being an experienced horseman, he quickly disengaged himself and grabbed his camera. While running toward the creature, Patterson took 24 feet of colour film footage. During this time, the creature quickly but calmly walked away across the sandbar into the woods. In the meantime, Gimlin observed the whole scene, rifle in hand, in case his friend was attacked by the creature. The men had previously agreed that under no circumstances would they shoot a Bigfoot unless in self-protection. The creature, estimated to be 7 feet 3½ inches in height and weighing 700 pounds, left footprints 14½ inches long by 6 inches wide. In that part of Bluff Creek, there is a sandy clay soil with a blue-gray tinge. This type of soil holds footprints remarkably well for a long period of time.

Make your own judgement on the footage.

There does seem to be a some differences between the Mogollon Monster and the Bigfoots of Washington, Oregon, and California. Hair color, length, and vocalizations seem to be the bigest differences. The Hair is more of a burnt orange, the head hair seems to be longer, and the vocalizations seem to be more like that of a terrorized woman.
